Obedience

Domestic Training...

Being a dog owner can be a source of joy and great companionship. However, your dog needs to be well trained and socialized to cultivate good habits in it. Hence, it is necessary to obedience train your pet dog.

Counties Dog Training Club holds a 7 week domestic training course to teach you the basics you will need in order to train your dog.  The course costs $80 and after the course is completed, you are able to participate in further courses for a fee of only $40.

Counties offers these classes on a Thursday night at our club grounds, and also on a Tuesday night, held indoors in the Massey Hall, situated at the Pukekohe A & P Show Grounds.

Competition Obedience...

Held from 7-8pm on a Tuesday night, this course caters for those who are interested in competition obedience. It will give you all the skills you need to train the exercises required for competing.  This course is only available to club members.

What is Competition Obedience?

In competition, merely sitting, lying down, or walking on a leash are insufficient.

The dog and handler must perform the activities off leash and in a highly stylized and carefully defined manner. For example, on a recall, the dog must come directly to the handler, without sniffing or veering to one side, and must sit straight in front of the handler, not at an angle or off to one side or the other.

Training for obedience competitions builds on basic obedience training.
